AN ENCHANTING TRIP TO THE GATES OF ROMAGNA THAT WILL MAKE YOU DISCOVER THE CHARM OF NATURE AND TASTE ITS SCENTS.
LA VERNA: SANCTUARY
If you think that Romagna is only sea, sun and disco, you are wrong.
There is in fact another Romagna, far from the coast crowded with tourists and made of mountains, crystal clear waters and wild nature.
The heart of life is the National Park of Casentino Forests, Monte Falterona and Campigna.
There is so much to see, and they are magical places that I personally adore.
Just think that already a few days old I was trekking around these parts in my dad’s and my mom’s backpack and then I took my first steps right up here 🙂
BUT COME TO US 🙂
Today I want to take you to a particularly beautiful place, rich in history and really fascinating: La Verna and its Sanctuary.
Let’s start from Cervia and point to the navigator Santuario La Verna.
We cross really beautiful streets.
One that particularly strikes us is the Strada dei Mandrioli: note with amazement the beauty of a rock face. Let me explain that it is called “Scalacce” in which you can notice the rhythmic alternation of yellow-beige sandstones and light gray marls.
The road offers numerous views of the Upper Savio Valley towards the dewlap, Mount Comero and Fumaiolo and the spectacular plateau of Nasseto.
After a hot coffee and a piece of tasty Romagna doughnut in the enchanting village of Badia Prataglia, we arrive at La Verna.
We park our car in the comfortable parking lot and walk towards the Sanctuary.
What an enchantment!!!
I like too much to see your expression of happiness and admiration in your face!!!
At Sacro Monte della Verna many miraculous events took place: among others, St. Francis here received the Stigmata during Lent in 1224.
We visit the Sanctuary being really amazed by its beauty.
Among the many things we see and discover today, we are really amazed by this thing we did not know.
ARE YOU READY?
How many times have you seen the detail of the “Creation of Adam” of the Sistine Chapel?
As we know it is probably one of the most famous frescoes in the world, which has become almost an icon, a symbol thanks to its beauty.
HANG IN THERE 🙂
Maestro Michelangelo Buonarroti was born in these very areas and was inspired by these magical places in the Casentino to create what has certainly been one of his most important works in the world.
Monte Penna de La Verna dominates the Casentino valley with its particular and easily recognizable shape. But a really interesting point, little known, perhaps because even a little hidden, is the view that you have on this mountain from what is now called the Sasso di Adamo.
Probably Michelangelo used a very detailed preparatory drawing when he painted “The Creation of Adam” in the Sistine Chapel.
The resemblance is so evident that we put ourselves in the same position as Adam on the stone… it seems that we have entered the work of art! 🤩
We decide to stay for lunch in the restaurant inside the Sanctuary and take another tour in the ancient woods that surround us.
It would be a shame not to take a walk there.
We return to Cervia, delighted to have spent a different day during our vacations in Romagna 🙂.
